Spliced & Diced now on in Stockport, Manchester
My current solo show has been extended to Wednesday 27th March at the Vernon Park Art Gallery & Museum. Let’s say it’s “Contemporary art meets old-school Victorian interior”, if it wasn’t for my artwork up in the huge walk-in glass cabinets I can almost imagine a plethora of taxidermy animals residing in this truly unique gallery space.
Occupying a basement setting, the exhibition area allows me to showcase a variety of abstract-landscape paintings from 2006, next to new painting and installation pieces. Combining my love of assemblage with new perspex and photographic materials to convey a truly distinctive ‘clash’ of the urban meets nature.
The hanging installation titled ‘The Hanging Gardens of Vernon Park’ incorporates photography of the gardens and nearby architecture. I have been inspired with mixing the new with the old, and visible with the invisible, the real and imagined. As you walk around the installation you gain a different perspective of the ‘imagined landscape’ revealing tension between its beautiful setting and manufactured presence.
