Inviting your audience to participate with the art on show. Are you crazy. We’ve been conditioned not to touch so it’s refreshing that we can do the exact opposite in the Lowry’s new exhibition ‘Extra-ORDINARY’.
At the end of the day art is for enjoyment. Whether you enjoy looking at a 2d representational painting or get out a kick out of watching the 1960’s film by Bruce Nauman massaging his own thighs to the playful concoction of the silly motions of kitchen utensils in ‘Semiotics of the Kitchen’ by Martha Rosler (1975). Re-arrange a pyramid of oranges. Keep it. Eat it. I could certainly smell it. You can determine the new size and shape of this ‘art structure’ by Roelof Louw called ‘Soul City’. Everyone loves Gavin Turk’s half eaten Rich Tea biscuit… signed by the artist of course.
