What an opportunity to see the combined works of over fifty artists at the established Federation House, located behind the Printworks in Manchester. It’s not often you get the chance to see such a large body of work in one place but this is something that has been championed by Castlefield Gallery who have run this venture for the last year. Unfortunately now having to find a new home for this type of cool artistic venture (boohoo) due to the building being taken off their hands and given back to a new commercial owner. I hope it won’t be too long before another venue will be found as I (and lots of other artists) would love to chance to create or exhibit artwork in such a great facility.

Here is a brief rundown of the artists and artist groups involved in the last great Federation House of artists.

Lower Ground floor: Matthew Denniss
Upper Ground floor: Bokeh Yeah! | Curated Place  |  Beth Kettel  |  Manifest  | Conor McKee | Potentialism
1st floor: Mark Devereux Projects
2nd floor: Agata Alcaniz | Holly Rowan Hesson & Lisa Denyer | Sarah Hill | Jane Lawson | Helen Mather | James Moss | Keith Wilkinson | Graham Wann
3rd floor: Filmonik
4th floor: Launch Pad: Manchester School of Art, Graduates 2014
5th floor: James Bloomfield | Sophia Crilly | Matt Davies | Kathryn Miller | Trine Moore | Pool Arts | Richard Shields | TOAST (workspace) | Paul Wolinski
6th floor: TOAST

Some of my favourite highlights from each floor are captioned below along with a photograph…

‘Potentialism’ – works by Anne Kershaw & Kevin Burke

Nicola Dale ‘holding her pose’ in MDP’s section

Darren Nixon’s assemblage works on the MDP floor

Mark Devereux Projects – 1st floor

James Moss’ experimental paintings on 2nd floor

More experimental patterns/surfaces from James Moss

‘Filmonik’ theatre on the 3rd floor

New works by Graduates from the Manchester School of Art – 4th floor

‘Pool Arts’ collective on a busy 5th floor
‘Large cheese cube’ installation from ‘Toast’ on the 6th floor

Prominent walkway leading to the inside of the cube

A mighty ‘cheese-tastic’ view
