This is a short piece on the work of my boyfriend’s artist dad, Alfred Randall Catherall, who sadly passed away last year. Unfortunately I never had the pleasure of meeting him but its great to know that his legacy continues at the St George’s Hotel in Llandudno.
The old Forte hotel group commissioned Alfred to paint thirty+ large paintings over a two period in 1979 and 1980. He was fortunate enough to have met L.S. Lowry, sold tons of paintings over in Germany where he lived for a few years and restored the oldest Tudor building in Chester which became his home. A distinguished man with natural artistic talent, he specialised in landscapes and his prolific output during his lifetime means there will be paintings around for years to come that the public can enjoy.
To end, here’s a selection of paintings on view at the St George’s Hotel… and a big cheers to Alf 🙂
