My Love of the Sea – A Poem

Formby beach and sand dunes |
Choosing a high vantage spot with views out towards the sea. We were nestled in a sandy pocket amongst the long marram grass and sea holly. I always feel at one when I’m by the coast and know that ultimately one day I’ll live by the sea.
The sea means a lot to me and the feeling of its power and beauty hasn’t left me so since my trip last weekend I’ve been inspired to write a poem… not something I usually do! Here it is…
My Love of the Sea
The sea is a compass
Of inward and outwardly direction
Spanning the length and breadth
Of a world at odds with each other
Water can be peaceful and calm
Yet deadly and passionate
A source of beauty and compassion
With treasures yet to behold
One we cannot conquer
Though wise be to us to harness
A chance to reflect
A time to breathe
Its special energy infuses us
Its harmonious spirit infects us
Longing, yearning for something more
Dreams are possible
The moons magnetic pull affecting its tides
Cause and effect
Dynamic dimensions we cannot realise
Anything is possible
We don’t know everything
Just look at the sea.
